I promised the bombardier Beer Lot. who have been running the excellent Champion of England award (that readersheds was a shortlosted for the other month..
That I would drink a Pint of English Beer for St Georges Day, but as their great brew is not that regular in Cardiff..unfortunately the closest I could get was this.

anyway good cheer and love to my English readers, when it comes down to it, its your shed that matters not where it is….
I meet up with old school mates on Saturday for a pint before the Cardiff Blues v Toulouse game at Cardiff’s millennium stadium, I was not going to the game but as I have not seen them for around a year… it was a good chance to catch up and have a few pints before they went off to the game, then home.
In fact the weather was so nice I stayed in Cardiff and had a few pints and meet them after the game and ended up at my local a few hours later with one of the boys Rory who was not going home.. but it made me realise that I can’t handle a all day session anymore…. 🙁 as i was not much use yesterday…
The only downside was that on these match days in Cardiff all the pubs serve their beer in plastic glasses, which does not help the taste in my opinion and this Batemans was the only decent pint and it was not very good at all, plus the megapub Prince of Wales had put the beer prices up. I had to wait until I got home to get a good pint a few Black Sheep

Anyway as the Mrs says I never get in contact with my mates enough, so will have to make the effort to visit Reading in the summer where three of them live & work of course a few decent pints should be waiting for me.
Went out for a walk with Sprout on Thursday to the Bush Inn, and had a lovely pint of Damson Porter from Burton bridge.

Its was like summer in a glass at the End of March in stinkies 2 (the Gatekeeper, Cardiff)
AJ said it was like Lager but with taste and no bubbles, but he is right.. as this was a mild and Pale ale…. would have 2-5 more anytime.
A few of my friends from work went for a curry and lashings of beer last at a the Gatekeeper in Cardiff, it’s a wetherspoons so we were not expecting top class curry but it’s cheap and normally cheerful.
Anyway James had the same as us, but he was delivered the Thali without any pots and just dumped on the plate, without even an explanation.
the Beer on the otherhand was fine
but one member of staff was quite rude, even though I have been going there since it opened.
A small introduction to these posts I have been taking photos of Beer Clips (the Badges on beer pumps) for many years now.. (It’s like train spotting for the inebriated) and even started a Flickr Group with them on.
When it started it was just a record of what I had consumed but now I tend to go out of my way to have a guest ale when I am not in Cardiff, my other local the Otley in Treforest always has a good selection on.
Eight times out of ten the beer is pretty good, the only problem drinking in Cardiff is that the lack of pubs that serve drinkable guest ale, so I tend to go to the love em or hate em wetherspoons, so not withstanding the chavs & babies, they do have free wifi so I can send the clips straight from the bar.
Anyway the beer, this week is Tudor Brewery Sugarloaf
Brewed by the Tudor Brewery which is in the Kings Arms public house in Abergavenny (which looks a lovely pub and will be on my visiting list If i go to the Food Festival this year)
It was a lovely beer with sweet smell and at at 4.2% abv was an easy session beer

Sugarloaf is a well rounded full-bodied caramelised beer using local ingredients. Suitable with rare charbroiled steak and fresh hamburger.
So if you can grab a pint then do so…
