My Beer Goggles – Chimay Red

You must know by now that I love the beer/photo blog Beerlens Rob and Kim do a great job.

I have a new lens myself so thought I would give it a go with a beer I need to drink.

not happy with the 2nd one too much glare..
I still need to get used to the lens but with a bit of effort and some time.

That time of the year again – Father Christmas Photo

This time of the year people seem to buy my Father Christmas running photo, maybe getting websites and publications ready for the Xmas period.

I took this images a few years a go at the Newton santa run, when I was getting into digital photography, it’s not shot on a DSLR on a canon powershot, but its my biggest selling shot (I only sell a few of my photos a month, so wont give up the day job)

Looking back it was not a great image in terms of composition and the colour was not great.. but its been popular and allows me to buy odds and sods for my camera every year as its for sale on iStockphoto

Unfortunately the quality of photos you need to put up nowadays is very high and I don’t have many accepted 🙁

Beer of the Week : Cwmbran pure welsh

I have not had this brew before but I am sure ArfurD may have some more info on it..

Cwmbran pure welsh

I like a Cwmbran beer, crow valley being my favorite , closely followed by Crow Valley Stout, they are a great little brewery and always worth a punt.

But this one tasted like beer I had when I was younger (like a Crown or Buckley brew) it was very malty but drinkable..maybe its the memories of your youth that makes it a nice lunch session pint..

Why can’t I get Cable when the man holes are everywhere

I was walking with Sprout last night and noticed different service man holes covers everywhere, not sure why I did not notice them before.

They were not BT ones they were CabelTel, which went onto be NTL and now virgin.

so looks likes my area was cabled but not to the house… does anyone know why? Did they run out of money? would BT be using this cable for their “SuperFast” broadband?

Spoilt for Choice in terms of Welsh Beers

At my local ‘Spoons (Thanks rob @beerlens for the shorten) they still had some GREAT Welsh ales left over from their mini Welsh Beer Festival this past bank holiday.

I narrowed it down to two.. both Bullmastiff Beers

and the Welsh Black won – I may pop back for the Slobberchops later but that Rymney Dark is also a fav, which was on the other bar…

Mmmm…. Marks & Spencer Pistachio and almond cookies

I may be on a diet but how could I resist a Marks & Spencer pistachio and almond cookie, it would be too rude.

What sort of photos should I be taking – 5 tips?

I have been a (very) amateur snapper for a few years now but a lot of my shots are the same old thing and I am in a rut, typical snaps I take.

My Dog

And my most view shots on Flickr range from this

Up Kilt shot: St David's Day Cardiff 2008

to this

Fresh Fish

I need to up my game(or some other awful management bolloxs) but I will be trying to follow these basic things

1) Take my Digital SLR with me all times – my new phone camera is just not up to the job 🙁
2) Just Shot anything that catches my eye – not the obvious mind you.
3) Don’t edit on the go, that shot may be saved when I get home.
4) Save some cash for that faster lens (how much!)
5) Enjoy it and relax

Any better tips?

The reason I am writing about my photo fails is that looking at great photoblogs like http://beerlens.com/ http://www.fineartphotoblog.com/ http://www.dphotojournal.com/ my old school friend El-Branden has given me terrible photo envy 🙁

And seeing all the other great entries in this years Cardiff photo marathon (disclosure I wrote the system to show them at my day job) but my entry is not what I had hoped for (first time using a film camera in 8 years, bad workman etc)

So reader can you help me improve!

Sun Sea and Ale in Newquay West Wales

I spent a nice 4 days in Newquay West Wales last week, the weather was good, the food was seaside stuff and the beer ranged from bad, good to excellent

I was lucky to call into the The Sea Horse Inn , its a very traditional pub, and a certain lived in feel.

The horse racing was always on and the regulars were more interested in Fizzy Cider or Lager, but there was one ale one Green King LBA (and a few bottles)

Sorry for the blurry photos my new android phone camera is not very good in low light 🙁

But on Thursday it changed as they were having their Annual Beer Festival (and it lasts until Bank Holiday Monday so get over there!)

[flickr]photo:3851259701[/flickr]

There had a small selection from the barrel plus a few on tap on the bar, some beers I have had many times before but always great to have them straight from the barrel.

[flickr]photo:3852054740[/flickr][flickr]photo:3851259421[/flickr][flickr]photo:3852054822[/flickr][flickr]photo:3852054510[/flickr][flickr]photo:3851259899[/flickr][flickr]photo:3851259781[/flickr]

We went back on the Thursday night and had a great time, they had a few locals playing guitar and singing and we left just after twelve.. a good night and a good welcome.

The rest of new quay was mainly Brains only , but the Dolau Inn had a nice pint of the Rev

[flickr]photo:3851260351[/flickr]

But the worst pint of Black Sheep I have ever had, in the Black Lion, Dylan Thomas must have like something else when he reportly drank there while coming up with Under milk wood

Another pint of note was Felinfoel Bitter in the The Royal Oak Aberaeron.

[flickr]photo:3851259983[/flickr]

overall a successful few days away, nice to spend a few days with my son as well as drinking beer and eating fish and chips!
